One popular excursion on the island is to walk up to the archaeological site of Ancient Thira, which is located on the top of a huge rock that separates the southern towns of Kamari and Perissa.
For those who enjoy fine food and wine, then prepare for a wide range of gastronomical delights when you visit Santorini. The island is famous throughout Greece, as well as the rest of the world, for it's unique wines. There are a number of wineries that you can visit where you can sample some of the islands most popular wines. The town of Oia in the north of the island is one of the most famous destinations for visitors who want to enjoy a famous Santorini sunset.
